Gayathri's Revenge -- and Compassion

(July 11, 2015)

PTA meeting with Gayathri's teachers.

After the basic academics, we moved on to discuss her general behaviour. They  had no complaints, except for one occasion a few days ago when she picked up another kid's lunchbox and threw it outside the window for no apparent reason. The boy's parents had spoken to the teachers about the missing item.

So, after the meeting, Ramya and I asked Gayathri why she did what she did. Our daughter revealed that this was the guy who had been throwing her pencil and rubber outside the window frequently. She stayed patient for a few days. When his pranks didn't stop, she acted.

So I chided her, saying she should have told the teachers or us about the boy. I sought to strike a mild emotional chord by reminding her that the poor boy must have gone hungry that day.

Ramya and I were amused and mildly stunned by her reply:

"I shared my food with him that day."
